Hello Ethan, hello Ben!

Hello from Singapore! 

I promised I would send you an email, so here are some photos from Singapore! 

Since coming back after Christmas, I have been spending lots of time with my friends here in Singapore. I have been rollerskating around the city and in our training ground. My team were in time out magazine this month!

As well as rollerderby, I have been swimming and even went to play netball, becuase we bet my big friend Jamie to play with all the girls. Look at how silly he is next to us vest!
 

 

I went to an amazing wedding, with lots of loud music, colorful clothes and spicy food. The girl getting married had to get changed 4 times, even though it was boiling hot! Poor thing!

Speaking of food, it is so different here to England! Just look at my dinner from tonight. This is:

papya salad (VERY HOT)
Kankong (quite hot)
Green curry (Hot hot hot)
Chicken (HOT) (No I wasn't eating chicken, that was Zad's)

The weather has been very rainy, so I have not gone swimming much. The rain feels like a shower here, and the thunder sounds like clouds bursting outside my window sometimes. I can't hang up washing and you get wet even going out with an umbrella. I am looking forwards to the monsoon season ending!

My naughty cats pulled down this sheet to sleep on when I finally got it dry!

My work has been very busy, and I have been on school trips last week and this week. Last week we went to the botanic gardens to learn about plants. This week we went to the jungle in pulau ubin... I am going to email you later about all the animals we saw! 

I finally got your durian sweets! They were from a Chinese medicine shop. It sold lots of things you won't see in England. Look at this picture - some people think eating deer horns will be good for them!

And look at this: google what cordyceps is and find out how it is harvested. Yuuuuk!

 

The shop was in Chinatown, where everyone is getting ready for the chinese new year. This year is the year of the snake, so there are snake decorations all over the place, and lots of stalls are selling red and gold decorations. Chinses people think that the colours red and gold will bring you good luck, so it is good to decorate your house in those colours at this time of year. They light red lanterns and keep bright flowers in their homes - it is like the Chinese version of christmas, so everybody gets into a holiday mood.

 

As well as decorations, you can see lion dancers in shopping centres and streets - they do amazing dances whilst people beat drums. I saw these ones in the shops a few days ago - they were dancing all the way up the escalator!

 

Here is a picture of Durians that were being sold in the street. You can always smell these stalls before you see them! the fruits at the back are called pomelos; they are like grapefruit, but as big as footballs!

I hope that your durian sweets are good for playing jokes, and you have lots of fun with them. I also hope all is well in England. Please give my love to your mum and dad, auntie Janet, and all the nannas!
